2016 - As Escolhas do Puto

Podia-se vilipendiar 2016 pelo que fez ao mundo da música. Uma das razões mais fortes foi ter levado gigantes como David Bowie, Prince e Leonard Cohen, figuras tão importantes como Alan Vega, George Michael e Merle Haggard, talentos como Black, Caroline Crawley e Sharon Jones, só para mencionar alguns. Mas, para cada lado negro, todos os anos revelam o seu lado luminoso. Dos álbuns que conheci, houve um bom contingente de discos excelentes, incluindo de dois dos gigantes, que nos presentearam com memoráveis álbuns de despedida. E, felizmente, tal como habitual, assisti a uma boa quantidade de concertos e animei regulares sessões botadisquistas.

Sharon Jones R.I.P.

Ainda há dias se lamentava a partida do poeta e 2016 faz mais uma vítima. O mundo não mais ouvirá ao vivo a voz poderosa de Sharon Jones. Um figura estantarte da editora Daptone e, consequentemente, da soul contemporânea, Miss Jones apenas iniciou a sua carreira discográfica depois dos 30 (tal como Cohen), mas isso acaba por ser irrelevante. Quem a viu em palco (fui um dos felizardos) rendeu-se à energia e vivacidade dela e da sua banda, onde a fúria funk de James Brown se aliava ao charme soul de Aretha Franklin, e decerto concorda que partiu cedo demais.

2016 está a ser implacável. Leonard Cohen foi a figura notável que nos foi levada na passada semana. Apesar da sua condição de ilustre poeta vir antes da sua projeção algo tardia como músico, foi com esta última faceta (indissociável da primeira) que prendeu e prende tantos fãs. Senhor de uma longa carreia, voltou a tornar-se relevante na sua fase final, tendo lançado um álbum notável há poucas semanas, em jeito de despedida. O seu legado é inestimável e eterno, com várias gerações tocadas e inúmeros músicos influenciados pela sua arte.

Na semana passada faleceu Caroline Crawley, metade dos Shelleyan Orphan. Era dona de uma voz singular e encantadora, delicada mas firme, que acompanhava na perfeição a instrumentação pop barroca de uma das bandas subvalorizadas do panorama musical britânico de finais dos oitentas. Deixa como legado 4 álbuns do duo (o primeiro considero-o um dos melhores discos britânicos dessa década) e algumas colaborações, sendo a de maior destaque no 3º álbum do projeto This Mortal Coil, onde empresta a voz a 4 canções.
